Indian sommelier Jai Singh set for first ASI world contest appearance

The Sommeliers Association of India (SAI) says it has more than 200 members, including 130 sommeliers, and has introduced ASI preparation, certification and diploma exams in India. India became a full member of the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale in May 2026, according to SAI.

Singh won SAI’s inaugural Best Sommelier of India competition in January 2025 and represented India at the ASI Best Sommelier of Asia & Pacific contest that year. SAI says he is preparing for the Lisbon competition with study, tasting and service practice, including mentoring from SAI co-founder Mattia Antonio Cianca.
